Ch. 24 Light-Cured Gels Flashcards
Building Gels
thick-viscosity gel that allows the cosmetologist to build an arch or extension
Cure
to transform from a liquid to a solid
Curing Lamp
specialized electronic device that powers and controls bulbs to cure gel nail enhancements
Exothermic
chemical reaction that releases heat
Hard Gels
also called traditional gel; is strong enough to use to build nail extensions
Inhibition Layer
leftover solvents and/or uncured gel that create a tacky surface on the nail after the gel has cured
LED Bulbs
light-emitting diode; creates light that shines directly on the gel for it to cure
Light-Cured Gel
type of nail enhancement product that hardens when exposed to specific types of light
Nanometer
abbreviated nm; a unit of length in the metric system; equal to one billionth of a meter
Pigmented Gels
any gel that includes color pigment
Polymer Gels
also called polygel or acrygel; created from a mixture of polymer powder and hard gels
Soft Gels
also called soak-off gel; formulated to overlay the natural nail; easily removed with acetone
Ultraviolet (UV) Fluorescent Bulbs
radiate light inside the lamp so all nails are equally exposed in ranges from about 320 to 400 nm
Wattage
measure of how much electricity a lamp consumes
