King Philip’s War
- Wampanoags vs English(Massachusetts) & Mohawks
- English win, Wampanoags severely weakened
- for a while, natives actually do well with raids and guns
- most prolonged and deadly encounter between whites and natives in 1600s
- CAUSE natives didn’t want English to love into their land and impose English law on them
Massachusetts Bay Company
Charter saying that colonists are responsible to themselves only, not a company official in England

- pilgrims on Plymouth Rock don’t have a legal basis for staying there
- established civil government and proclaimed their allegiance to the king
