Effects of partition in India?
- growing hatred between Hindus and Muslims
- led to more political unrest and tension
- led to the death of 1 million people who were travelling to their new homes in India.
After World War 2, why was there conflict between Palestinians and Israelis during the Partition of Palestine?
- WWII left the UN pitying the Jews. This led to them giving Jews 55 percent of the original Palestinian area although only 34 percent of the population was Jewish.
- Due to fighting around its borders, the state that the UN set aside for Palestinians never came to be. Israel and other countries seized it.
What happened in Kashmir as a result of the partition of India?
Bloodshed increased as both Muslims and Hindus wanted this small piece of land because the prince of the area was Hindu, but the population was mostly Muslim.
Partiton
Term given to the division of India into separate Hindu and Muslim Nations (Northwest + East = Muslim)
How was Pakistan divided?
East and West. East Pakistan had a larger population, but was disregarded by the West.
After a deadly flood took thousands of East Pakistanis’ lives and received no help from West Pakistan, the declared themselves a nation called Bangladesh.
US - Filipino connection?
US exploited the Philippines for resources. It was also used as a very tactical military base.

They were a secret society made up of Kenyan farmers forced out of highlands by the British.
Describe the Suez Crisis.
In 1956 in the 2nd Arab-Israeli War, Egypt seizes control of the Suez Canal, owned by the British. Britain, France, and Israel withdraw eventually and Egypt keeps its new land.
Who was Mobuto Sese Seko?
A ruler who controlled a country named Zaire. Gained control through force, one party rule, and gifts to supporters.
What were the Camp David Accords?
An agreement between Sadat, the Egyptian president, and Begin, an Israeli leader, which ended 30 yrs of conflict.
Egypt recognized Israel as a legitimate state and in turn, Israel gave back the Sinai Peninsula.
