Ch 17 Non-Atherosclerotic Arterial Pathology Flashcards
What is an AVF?
Abnormal communication b/w an artery + vein
What is buergers disease?
-Type of vascular arteritis, affects small + medium sized arteries
-Aka thromboangitis obliterans
What is giant cell arteritis?
-Type of vascular arteritis, affects superficial temporal artery + other arteries of the head/neck
-Aka temporal arteritis
What is a pseudoaneurysm?
-Expanding hematoma
-Hole in arterial wall which allows to leave the vessel + collect in surrounding tissue
What is takayasus arteritis?
-Type of vascular arteritis
-Affects Ao arch + its large branches
___ is the cause of peripheral arterial disease in 90% of pt’s?
Atherosclerosis
What are non-atherosclerotic arterial diseases?
-Inflammatory diseases
-Congenital abnormalities
-Acquired diseases or injuries
M/c site for GCA?
Superficial temporal artery
M/c site for TA?
Subclavian arteries
What type of arteritis has the macaroni sign in TRV?
TA
M/c site for BD?
Small/medium sized arteries of the fingers + toes
What disease is always bilateral?
Beurgers
What is radiation induced arteritis?
Rare complication of radiation therapy for cancer
M/c site for an embolization?
Cerebrovascular system
M/c emboli source?
Cardiac, due to chronic A-FIB
(rest arise outside the heart, in the subclavian arteries)
M/c cause of a pseudoaneurysm?
Iatrogenic
M/c site for a pseudoaneurysm?
RT CFA
What is popliteal artery entrapment syndrome?
When the Pop A is compressed by the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle or adjacent tendons (hard to diagnose)
What causes Pop A entrapment?
Congenital deformity of the muscle/tendons
