A

-Liquid part of the blood
-Contains proteins, electrolytes, etc.
-55% of blood volume

Q

What is Anemia?

A

When someone has a low RBC count or a low Hemoglobin concentration they do not have much oxygen transported
They are more tired

Q

What is Sickle Cell Anemia?

A

A specific type of anemia where many of the RBCs are shaped abnormally
The cells are called sickle cells and they don’t carry oxygen well.
The body sees these cells as abnormal, so it tries to get rid of them, making RBC count decrease even more

16
Q

Patient with WBC count of 17k

A

Way too high
Maybe infection
Get history of patient
Maybe inflammation of the body

17
Q

Patient with WBC count of 1k

A

Way too low
Patient has increased risk of fighting off infection, does not have enough cells to do job

18
Q

5 types of WBC

A

Neutrophils
Eosinophils
Basophils
Lymphocytes
Monocytes

19
Q

Thromobytes

A

Platelets
150k to 400k per microliter

20
Q

What is Hemostasis?

A

blood clotting

21
Q

What is the primary function of platelets?

A

Senses damage and forms blood clots
Good and beneficial to the body

22
Q

Where do all cells come from?

A

Bone marrow, the kidneys release a hormone that stimulates RBC production
