exposure therapy
Client has to experience feared situation with the idea that they’ll eventually get used to it (spider)
aversion therapy
Used to stop undesirable behavior by pairing with an aversive stimulus (alcohol)
token economies
reinforcement for desired behaviors with tokens ( a poker chip), that can be exchanged for items or privileges (AA,NA)
cognitive distortion
thinking error; negative and unrealistic thought
cognitive therapy
How you think determines how you feel and act, Can change feelings of distress by changing how you think
cognitive behavioral therapy
works to change cognitive distortions and self-defeating behaviors
Aims to change both how people think and how they act
group therapy
Group of several clients with similar problems, Low cost, social/emotional support
antipsychotics
blocking dopamine, treat hallucinations, delusions
atypical antipsychotics
block dopamine and serotonin receptors, treat withdrawals and apathy
