Ch 15 Sympathetic Nervous System Anatomy Flashcards
Which spinal nerves does the fibers originate from?
T1-L2
Where are the pre and postganglionic fibers found?
pre: found before the ganglion
post: found after the ganglion
What are the sizes of the pre and postganglionic fibers in the sympathetic nervous system?
preganglionic: short
postganglionic: long
Locations of the 3 sympathetic ganglia
- sympathetic chain ganglia
- collateral ganglia
- adrenal medullae
Types of adrenergic receptors
alpha 1: widespread, excite, inc. metabolism
alpha 2: muscles, glands, inhibit
beta 1: heart, liver, adipose
beta 2: inhibit digest, smooth muscle of vessels
beta 3: lipolysis in adipose
What are the effects of sympathetic stimulation?
dilation of eyes, sweat glands increased, arrector pili contracted, heart/BP increased etc.
What organs are innervated by sympathetic fibers?
glands, heart, lungs, liver, gall bladder, stomach, spleen, intestines, kidney, bladder etc.
