Stress
response to a situation that threatens, or appears to threaten, one’s sense of well being

something that triggers a stress response

Post traumatic stress Disorder (PTSD)
an anxiety disorder cause by a major traumatic event, characterized by lingering and persistent, frightening thoughts or memories of the event, along with anxiety and depression
Chronic Negative Situations

-living in a dangerous place, poverty, illness, job stress
Sociocultural conditions
challenges associated with minority group
-immigrating, racism and prejudice
Fight - Flight Response
during stress, your body makes your feel like you either like want to fight or run
- HTP nervous system- direct stimulation of organs, and indirect stimulation through the adrenal medulla
- HTP pathway- hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal gland
General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS)
3 Stages
- — body’s reaction to initial exposure to stressor (fight or flight)
- — body’s attempt to stabilize if stressor continues
- — further exposure to stressor depletes energy and resistance
Style resulting in continual stress
-competitive, impatient, angry, hostile
experience lower levels of stress
- relaxed, low aggression, low hostility
