Ch. 14 Flashcards
hey coordinate the bill of materials, forecasted demand, long lead-time parts, and the inventory in the plant.
Materials requirement planning
Derived from the demand for other products or service.
Dependent demand
What type of demand exists for the memory chips in a computer?
Dependent Demand
Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP) systems typically rely on a Bill of Materials (BOM) and the product structure for their information.
Product Structure diagram
A schedule that shows total demand for an item, and when it must be ordered from a supplier or when production must be started
Gross materials requirement plan
A system used for production planning and inventory control, with an information feedback feature that enables plans to be checked and adjusted.
Closed-loop MRP system
What is MRP II? How does it differ from MRP?
MRP stands for material requirements planning and deals with bringing in the right amount of raw material at the right time to support production. MRPII stands for manufacturing resource planning and builds on MRP by adding shop floor production planning and tracking tools. MRP II goes beyond the staging of manufacturing materials.
Is a category of business-management software—typically a suite of integrated applications—that an organization can use to collect, store, manage and interpret data from many business activities, including: product planning, purchase.
Enterprise Resource planning (ERP)
How is MRP related to ERP?
ERP differs from MRP and MRP II in that it incorporates more features than its predecessors. Some ERP packages include supply chain management, customer relationship management, and additional human resources functions such as payroll. ERP systems are architected using client/server or Internet framework.
What information is necessary for an operations manager to make effective use of a dependent inventory demand model?
Master production schedule
specifications , product structure diagram or bill of material, inventory availability, purchase orders oustanding, lead times
What functionality does enterprise resource planning (ERP) provide an organization?
Automates and integreates core business processes. Such as taking customer orders, scheduling, keeping inventory records and financial data. Improves efficiency
What is the set of software applications called that organize, define and standardize the business processes necessary to effectively plan and control an organization?
ERP
A timetable that specifies what is to be made (usually finished goods) and when.
Master Production Schedule (MPS)
What is a planning system called that provides feedback to the capacity plan, master production schedule, and production plan so planning can be kept valid at all times?
Closed-loop MRP
In what document are due dates and quantities for all top level items specified?
Master Production Schedule
