what is social power?
the ability to INFLUENCE others and RESIST other’s influence on us
What is domestic terrorism?: (ICE-BIKE)
-intimidation: causing fear-looks, acts, gestures
-coercion and physical threats: coerce crime, threaten to leave, making and carrying out threats
-ECONOMIC abuse: control money, prevent her from working
-Using KIDS: relay messages through kids, threatens to take kids away,
-EMOTIONAL abuse: mind games, put downs, trickery, humniliation, guilting
-using ISOLATION: controlling her access to friends, what she reads, where she goes
-BLAMING, minimizing, denying: making light of abuse, dismissing concerns, denying abuse, victim blaming
=male privilege
Interdependence theory focuses on two broad types of power: (brave behaviour)
- fate control: one partner has control over the other
and - behaviour control: one partner changes their behaviour as way of influencing the others’.

6 resources of power:
CLERIR
C oersive power = punish someone else
L egitimate power = a reasonable right to power
E xpert power = knowledge and expertise
R eferent power = given to someone with their love and affection
I nformational power = having specific information
R eward power = bestow rewards on another

3 types of couple violence:
- situational couple violence
- intimate terrorism
- violent resistance
