Ch. 12: Muscular and Articular Systems Flashcards
mvts of bones w/out reference to the jt or the forces producing that mvt
Osteokinematic mvt
when the body moves over a fixed DIST segment
closed kinetic chain
advantage and disadvantage of closed kinetic chain mvts
advantage: increased neuromuscular control and balance, promote dynamic stabilization (synergistic mms activate), generates stabilizing compressive forces through jts
DIST segment moves in space generally against a resistance (resistance not required though)
open kinetic chain
advantage and disadvantage of open kinetic chain mvts
Advantage: can target specific mms and identify strength deficits, allows for free mvt and rapid acceleration of DIST segment (good for specific sports training)
Disadvantage: may introduce shearing stress across jts, less neuromuscular control and balance
mvt that occurs at the jt itself b/w the opposing jt surfaces
arthrokinematic motion
3 aspects of arthrokinematic motion
roll, slide (or glide), and spin
imaginary points on the moving surface contact points at the same intervals on the opposing surface (arthrokinematic motion)
roll
imaginary points on the moving surface contact / glide over various points on the opposing surface
slide
rotation of the moving surface on the opposing surface
spin
which 2 aspects of arthrokinematics occur simultaneously
roll and slide
concave - convex rule
if a concave surface moves over a stationary convex surface, sliding occurs in the same direction as mvt of the bony lever. If a convex surface moves over a stationary concave one, sliding occurs in the opposite
direction as movement of the bony lever
