Case Conceptualization
How the counselor understands the nature of the client’s concerns
Diagnosis
Identification of target concern/problem

Identifying goals and strategies for intervention
Types of test
- Cognitive (intelligence, aptitude, achievement)
- Affective (personality, symptoms, etc)
Categories of tests:
-Standardized (defined protocol)
-Non standardized (ex in class test)
-Norm-Referenced (gives percentile)
Criterion-Referenced (grade or % score)
Validity
How well a test measures what it was intended to
Reliability
How accurately a test measures a construct over repeated trials
Content Validity
How well questions represent the domain being tested
Criterion Validity
Correlation between test and other measures of the same construct (concurrent = both measures taken at same time, predictive = criterion measured shortly after test)
Construct Valididty
How well a test overall measures an intended construct (convergent = correlation between similar tests, divergent = no correlation between different tests)
Types of reliability
Test-retest, paralell forms correlate, split-half reliability, & internal consistency
Ethical considerations
- cultural fairness
- technology (could affect confidentiality)
- scope of competence in administering/interpreting
