AIDS
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, an incurable disease of the immune system caused by a virus

A fungal infection; also known as a yeast infection

An ulcer that forms during the first stage of syphilis

Microorganisms that are a leading cause of pseudomembranous colitis; also known as “C. diff”

Condylomata
Wart-type growth found usually in the genital or anal area
Dengue fever
A virus transmitted by an infected mosquito
Gastroenteritis
Inflammation of the stomach, small intestine and large intestine
Gonorrhea
Disease caused by a bacterium and transmitted by sexual contact
HAART
Highly-active antiretroviral therapy, a group of drugs given to AIDS patients for prophylaxis

A virus also known as a “cold sore” or “fever blister”

A disease caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox
Histoplasmosis
A fungal disease that primarily affects the lungs
HIV
Human Immunodeficiency Virus; the virus that affects the immune system and can progress to AIDS
Lyme disease
An inflammatory disease caused by bacteria carried by ticks
Meningitis
An infection in the fluid of a person’s spinal cord and brain
“Mycobacterium avium-intercellulare”
A mycobacteria found in soil and water

The lowest level

Parasitic
Organism that lives on or takes nourishment from another organism
Poliomyelitis
A viral disease that affects the nerves
Scabies
Contagious dermatitis caused by mites
Sepsis
Medical condition in which the immune system goes into overdrive, releasing chemicals into the blood to combat infection that trigger widespread inflammation
Septic shock
A condition caused by “infection” and “sepsis”. It can cause “multiple organ failure” and “death”.
Sequelae
Late effect or residual of an acute disease.
SIRS
Systemic inflammatory response syndrome, which can be caused by infection or trauma
Syphilis
A sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is caused by bacteria
Tuberculosis (TB)
An infection caused by “Mycobacterium Tuberculosis”
Urosepsis
Infection of urinary site
Viral meningitis
A viral infection of the fluid in the spinal cord and around the brain
West Nile
A viral disease that is spread to individuals by a mosquito bite
