Learning tool, focuses on creating a word formed from initial letters of a name.
Bloom’s Taxonomy
Delineates 3 domains for classifying educational objectives:
Cognitive - objectives that focus on thinking capabilities
Affective - objectives that focus on feelings, values, and dispositions
Psychomotor - objectives that focus on feelings, values, and dispositions
Brain Hemisphere
Some researchers believe that brain hemispheres are the key to understanding how students think and function in the learning environment, there are different functions for right vs. left. Left - analytical, Right - Artistic
Bruner
Father of cognitive psychology. The mind is guided by experience and with experience comes a coding within the brain which leads a learner to make predictions about the future.
Direct Instruction
Teacher-centered instructional approach, typically delivered in a lecture style.
Classroom Management
Planning and implementing methods to ensure that the learning environment of the classroom provides an effective venue for learning.
Convergent Questioning
Requires students to “converge” on one answer. Requires lower-level thinking skills. (closed-ended questions, one answer)
Instructional Objective
Statement that details what a student should know and be able to do as a result of a specific learning experience. (short or long term)
Deductive Thinking
Requires students to take one or more general statements, and then work their way down to a more specific conclusion.
Modeled Reading
Literacy tool, focuses on a teacher reading and modeling fluency including tone, rate, and prosody.
Divergent Question
Requires critical thinking, allows for students to generate multiple answers to a defined questions. Requires higher-order thinking skills. (open-ended questions)
Educational Objective
Goals developed by a teacher, based on state standards, which direct student learning.
Simulation
Learning tool, focuses on imitating and operation of a real-world process or system.
Standards
State-mandated guidelines for learning, which are detailed by providing grade-level expectations and benchmarks for student learning.
Individualized Instruction
Instructional strategies that are tailored to a student’s specific learning style.
