technical rescue
individual who has been trained to perform or direct a variety of unique and complex rescue situations
technical rescuer
an organization, office, or individual responsible for enforcing the requirement of a code or standard or approving equipment, an installation, or a procedure.
Authority having jurisdiction (AHJ)
Statement that describes the performance required for a specific job
Job performance requirement (JPR)
System described in NFPA 1561, Standard on Emergency Services Incident Management System that defines the roles, responsibilities, and standard operating procedures used to manage emergency operations.
Incident Management System (IMS)
Rule for how personnel should perform routing functions or emergengy operations
Standard operating procedure or guideline (SOP/SoG)
written or unwritten plan for the disposition of an incident.
Incident Action Plan (IAP)
person in charge of the incident command system and responsible for the management of all incident operations during an emergency
incident commander (IC)
ongoing evaluation of influential factors at the scene of an incident
Size-up
In the incident command system, a shared command role in which all agencies with geographical or functional responsibility establish a common set of incident objectives and strategies.
Unified Command
location at which the incident commander and command staff direct, order and control resources at an incident
Incident Command Post (ICP)
system of barriers surrounding designated areas at emergency scenes
hazard-control zone
method for identifying which emergency responders are working on an incident scene
Personnel accountability system
two or more firefighters designated to perform firefighter rescue
Rapid intervention Crew (RIC)
Description of any atmosphere that poses an immediate hazard to life or produces immediate irreversible, debilitating effects on health
Immediately Dangerous to Life and Heath (IDLH)
situation where the victim is determined to be dead, and the goal of the operation is to recover the body
Recovery
saving a life from fire or accident; removing a victim from an untenable or unhealthy atmosphere
rescue
to operate independently of the incident commanders command and control
freelance
perception of one’s surrounding environment, and the ability to anticipate future events
situational awareness
reciprocal assistance from one fire and emergency services agency to another during an emergency, based upon a prearranged agreement; generally made upon the request of the receiving agency
