Ch 1 Basics Flashcards
Dynamic
Moving
Static
Non moving
Flexion
A muscle must span a joint anteriorly.
Decreasing a joint angle
Extension
Muscle must span joint posteriorly
Increase in joint angle
Supine position
Lying straight with anterior facing up
Prone position
Anterior surface pointing downward.
Bilateral
Both sides
Contralateral
Opposite side
Ipsilateral
Same side
Arthrokinematic motion
Refers to a joint surface motion in relation to body segments
Ex: proximal end of humerus goes down as arm raises up. Flexion occurs at shoulder not the arm.
Rectilinear movement
In a straight line
Curvilinear movement
In a curved path
Angular motion
Movement of an object around a fixed point
Osteokinematic
Movement of bone around a joint axis
Arthrokinematics
Joint surface movement
Radial deviation
Hand moves laterally toward the thumb.
Ulnar deviation
Hand moves medially toward the pinky.
Define circumduction
And list the 4 joint motions included in it.
A circular or cone shaped motion. Abd Add Flexion Extension
Rotation
Movement of bone or part around it’s longitudinal axis.
Medial rotation (internal rotation)
Anterior surface rolls inward toward midline
Lateral rotation (external rotation)
Surface rolls outward away from midline.
Inversion
Moving sole of foot inward at ankle
Protraction
Linear movements in horizontal plane away from midline.
Retraction
Linear movement toward midline
