Cervical Spine Dx Flashcards
What type of spinal mechanics does C3 have?
Modified type II
Rotate and sidebend in SAME direction
What is the only motion found at AA joint?
Rotation
What nerve roots are tested during DTR of the brachioradialis?
C6
How would you demonstrate gross motion testing of the cervical spine on your patient?
Have pt actively flex, extend, sidebend and rotate
Then passively
What would be a positive Spurling’s test and what does that indicate?
Positive test would be pain down the arm following a nerve root
Indicates compression
Name five DTR location, their nerve roots and how you document a normal finding
Biceps C5 Brachioradialis C6 Triceps C7 Patellar L4 Achilles S1 Normal - +2/4 (location) B/L
What should you do before assessing rotation of the AA joint?
Flex to block out rotation of C2-C7
What does modified type 1 mechanics mean and which part of the cervical spine uses this?
F and E
OA joint
If when laterally translating the OA joint in neutral, I have a restriction of translation to the right, what can I assume?
If the OA won’t laterally translate to the right, it means that the joint is side bent right and rotated left
Modified type I so know they are opposite
