How do the HPV test and cytology test differ?
A
HPV test
- machine
- identifies infection (could be transient or CIN associated)
- sensitive
Cytology
- human interpretation
- identifies cellular changes (low grade - persisting infection/CIN1; high grade - CIN2/3)
- specific

What happens if a sample comes back positive for high risk HPV?
A
If cytology is normal - repeat test in 1 year
Dyskaryosis - refer to colposcopy

Mainly 16 & 18, but also 31 and 45
