Lateral cervical film

A
  1. have patient remove all jewelry, glasses, and other artifacts
  2. use the caliper to measure their neck
  3. put a 1/2 apron on them
  4. set the tube to 72’
  5. use a 8x10 film vertically
  6. collimate to film size
  7. place patient in front of the bucky
  8. line the top of the light up with the top of the ear (central ray at C4/thyroid cartilage)
  9. place anatomical marker
  10. exhale and stop building

  2. measure from base of skull to OPEN mouth
  3. sheild with 1/2 apron
  4. set tube to 40’
  5. use a 8x10 film vertically
  6. collimate to film size
  7. place patient in front of bucky, line the bottom of the front teeth to to mastoid parallel to the floor
  8. line the center of the light to the center of the mouth
  9. place anatomical marker
  10. don’t breathe, don’t move

AP cervical

A
  1. remove patient artifact
  2. measure neck
  3. put 1/2 apron on patient
  4. set tube to 40” with a 15 degree cephalic tube tilt (tilt up)
  5. place 8x10 film vertically
  6. collimate to film size
  7. place patient, line from bottom of the front teeth to the mastoid parallel to floor
  8. central ray at thyroid cartilage (C4)
  9. place anatomical marker
  10. don’t breathe, don’t move

anterior oblique cervical

A
  1. remove patient artifacts
  2. measure same as lateral
  3. shield with 1/2 apron
  4. set tube tilt to 72” with caudal tube tilt (tilt down)
  5. place 8x10 film vertically
  6. collimate to film size
  7. place patient rotated 45 degrees from PA position
  8. place central ray with top of light at top of ear
  9. place anatomical marker
  10. don’t breathe, don’t move

cervical flexion extension

A
  1. remove patient artifacts
  2. measure same as lateral
  3. shield with 1/2 apron
  4. set tube tilt 72”
  5. place 10x12 film vertically
  6. collimate to film size
  7. place patient, have them tuck chin to comfort (flex), look up to ceiling (extend)
  8. place central ray top of light at top of ear
  9. place anatomical marker
  10. exhale and stop breathing
