Lateral cervical film
A
- have patient remove all jewelry, glasses, and other artifacts
- use the caliper to measure their neck
- put a 1/2 apron on them
- set the tube to 72’
- use a 8x10 film vertically
- collimate to film size
- place patient in front of the bucky
- line the top of the light up with the top of the ear (central ray at C4/thyroid cartilage)
- place anatomical marker
- exhale and stop building

A
- have patient remove any artifacts
- measure from base of skull to OPEN mouth
- sheild with 1/2 apron
- set tube to 40’
- use a 8x10 film vertically
- collimate to film size
- place patient in front of bucky, line the bottom of the front teeth to to mastoid parallel to the floor
- line the center of the light to the center of the mouth
- place anatomical marker
- don’t breathe, don’t move

AP cervical
A
- remove patient artifact
- measure neck
- put 1/2 apron on patient
- set tube to 40” with a 15 degree cephalic tube tilt (tilt up)
- place 8x10 film vertically
- collimate to film size
- place patient, line from bottom of the front teeth to the mastoid parallel to floor
- central ray at thyroid cartilage (C4)
- place anatomical marker
- don’t breathe, don’t move

anterior oblique cervical
A
- remove patient artifacts
- measure same as lateral
- shield with 1/2 apron
- set tube tilt to 72” with caudal tube tilt (tilt down)
- place 8x10 film vertically
- collimate to film size
- place patient rotated 45 degrees from PA position
- place central ray with top of light at top of ear
- place anatomical marker
- don’t breathe, don’t move

cervical flexion extension
A
- remove patient artifacts
- measure same as lateral
- shield with 1/2 apron
- set tube tilt 72”
- place 10x12 film vertically
- collimate to film size
- place patient, have them tuck chin to comfort (flex), look up to ceiling (extend)
- place central ray top of light at top of ear
- place anatomical marker
- exhale and stop breathing
