what are secondary root surface caries?
caries that develop adjacent to or around an existing restoration
what are the risk factors for root surface caries?
xerostomia, carbohydrate intake, dentures, poor OH, high caries experience, increased s.mutans/lactobacilli
how can root surface caries be prevented?
OHI,fluoride, diet
how would you manage a shallow root surface lesion?
recontour and apply fluoride, if self cleansing restoration isnt necessary
how would you manage a deep root surface lesion?
remove caries and restore with GI
why would you hand excavate?
pulp exposure
