Cervical Cancer Staging Flashcards
Stage 1 cancer involves
Cervix only (1a1 and 1a2= depth of invasion, 1b1-3 = width)
Stage II involves
Upper 2/3 vagina and width (IIa1 and IIa2) and parametrial extension (IIab)
Stage III involves
3 different areas: IIIa lower third vagina, IIIb pelvic side wall/hydronephrosis, IIIc nodes (IIIc1 pelvic, IIIc2 paraortic)
Stage IV involves
Spread - IVa adjacent pelvic organs (bladder/bowel), IVb distant pelvic organs
Stage IA
Cervix only, depth
IA1 = <3mm
IA2 = >/= 3mm and <5mm
Stage 1a1
<3mm invasion
Stage 1a2
> /=3mm <5mm invasion
Stage 1b
3= width + >/=5mm invasion
1b1 <2cm
1b2 =/>2cm <4cm
1b3 =>/= 4cm
Stage 1b1
Width and >/= 5mm invasion
1b1= <2cm wide
Stage 1b2
Width + >/=5mm invasion
1b2= >/=2cm <4cm
Stage 1b3
> /=4cm width, >/= 5mm invasion
Stage 2A
2A = upper 2/3 vagina + width 2A1= upper 2/3 vagina <4cm 2A2= upper 2/3 vagina >/= 4cm
45 year old woman, cervical cancer with half a centimetre depth of invasion, 5cm wide, involving upper 2/3 vagina- no nodes or distant mets, what stage?
2A2
Involves upper 2/3 vagina =2A
>4cm = 2A2
Stage 2B
Parametrial involvement, no pelvic side wall
Stage 3a
Lower 3rd vagina
Stage 3b
Pelvic side wall +/- hydronephrosis
Stage 3c
Nodes

3c2 paraortic
42 year old woman, invasive cervical cancer, hydronephrosis and positive paraortic lymph node. What stage?
3C2
Stage Va
Local invasion (bladder or bowel)
Stage Vb
Distant mets
36 year old woman, histology from colposcopy shows cervical cancer invading the stroma by 1mm
Stage 1a1
38 year old colposcopy identifies a 3cm cervical cancer with no distant or local spread
