Cerebral Palsy Types And Oucome Measures Flashcards
Spastic CP?
Velocity dependent resistance of a muscle to stretch
-Synergy patterns, contractures, crouched gait, toe walking
Ataxic CP?
Disorder of coordination, force, and timing, associated with cerebellar involvement
-Floppy baby/low tone, poor balance, wide BOS, nystagmus
-Trx: preserve strength
Athetoid/dyskinetic CP?
Disorder of the basal ganglia, characterized by involuntary movements that are slow and writhing
-Poor stability, intention tremors, fluctuating tone
Dystonic: involuntary sustained or intermittent muscle contraction w/ repetitive movements and abnormal posture
Atentos is: slow continuous writhing movements that prevent maintenance of stable posture
Level 1 of GMFCS?
Patient will walks WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS but will have limitations in more advanced gross motor skills
Level 2 GMFCS?
Patient will WALK W/O AD with limitations in walking outdoors and in the community
Level 3 GMFCS?

Hemiplegic CP?
-Affects a specific hemisphere shortly after birth
-paralysis on one half of the body/side opposite of the brain injury
Quadriplegic/tetraplegic CP?
-All limbs are affected
-Symptoms:
-muscles that rapidly contract and release
-joints cannot stretch or more
-spasticity
-muscle tremors/uncoordinated muscles
-scissoring limbs
-seizures
