Cerebral Circulation Flashcards
1
Q
Cerebral Circulation
A
- the brain needs a constant supply of blood. Disruption of the blood flow to these vessels leads to insight of hte effects of CVA’s and TBI’s
2
Q
Anterior Circulation
A
- Contains common carotid arteries (cerebrum), ext/int carotid arteries (face, cerebral hemispheres and optic nerve, right/left-anterior/medial artery), middle cerebral artery (lateral surface of the brain and deep hemispheeres)
3
Q
Anterior Cerebral artery and Middle Cerebral artery circulate blood where?
A
- Anterior Brain
4
Q
Posterior Circulatoin
A
- Two vertebral arteries, branch from the sublavius artery
1. Supply blood to the brain stem and cerebellum
2. Arteries unite to form the basilar artery
3. Basilar artery bifurcates to form the left and right PCA
4. ACA & PCA interconnect to form the Circle of Willis
5
Q
What supplies the Occipital and Temporal Lobes with blood?
A
- Right and Left Posterior Cerebral Arteries
6
Q
What helps protect the brain if there is a decrease in blood flow?
A
- Circle of Willis
7
Q
Can the CNS regenerate?
A
- NO. NOPE, NOT AT ALL, GET OVER IT, IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN
8
Q
Can the PNS regenerate?
A
- Yes, you got lucky, very lucky.
- It contains a basement membrain
9
Q
Basement Membrane
A
- a specialized sheet like structure that separates tissues or membranes after injury, it provides a guide for migration of regenerating cells
10
Q
Regeneration occurs at what rate?
A
1.0mm per day
