Cerebellum Flashcards
What are the three layers of the cerebellar cortex?
The internal granular cell layer, the prukinje cell layer and the molecular layer (almost all cell processes).
How does information get into the cerebellum?
Info synapses on cells in the internal granule cell layer. Axons of the granule cells project ot the molecular layer there they synapse on the dendrite of the purkinje cells. The purkinje cells are the pathways out of the the cerebellar cortex. These axons project to the deep nuclei o th cerebellum.
How does information get out of the cerebellum?
Most of the output exists via the superior cerebellar peduncle and goes to the contralateral thalamus (VL) to reach the contralateral motor and motor-association cortex.
What is ataxia?
Incoordination. The speed of initiation of movement is slowed.
What is nystagmus?
It is an abnormal rhythmic movement of the eyes due to a lesion somewhere in the system used to maintain steady gaze.
