CERAD EXAM 2/3 -Using in Car Technology Flashcards
HWC Rule 149 - Phones
You MUST exercise proper control of the vehicle and MUST NOT use a hand-helf phone or similar device unless making 112 or 999 call in an emergency
When to use fog lights?
Visibility is 100m or less
What is active saftey featurs and 3 examples?
Saftey Systems active prior to a crash
ABS, TCS, ESP
What is the function of ABS? How does it work?
Allows for steering during hard/Emergency breaking.
Detects when a wheel is slowing and about to skid and releases the breaking at that wheel
Does ABS reduce stopping distance?
No, may increase or decrease depending on other factors
what is EBA?
Emergency Brake assist
When brakes applied with speed and foce, EBA cuts in and applies additional maximum force until ABS takes over, reducing stopping distance
what is AEB
Autonomous Emergency Brake.
Function is vehicle specific, consult manual
TCS?
Traction control system
Controlls excess spin on individual wheels by using braking and limiting engine output in some cases.
Reduce power of TCS engages
ESP?
Electronic Stability Control
Incorperates TCS and ABS to maintain stability when the vehicle is being driver at its maximum cabilitities.
Sesnors on wheels work with yaw sesnor (rotation and pitch). If sensors detec the vehicle isnt following its intended path, it applies individual brakes to correct under or oversteer
Seat Belt Checks (5)
- Check the webing for cuts and damage
- Over shoulder, flat over sternum to opposite hip with no twists.
- Seat belt adjuster 25-50mm abover shoulder
- Test inertia mechanism
- No objects between belt and person
Passive saftey Systems that benefit from correct use of a seatbelt
Airbags
Seatbelt
Side Impact protection
Passenger Cell Protection
Steering Column design
Whiplash Protection System
Head Restraints
Crumple Zone
Define Passive Saftey System
A system that prevents injury in the event of a crash
EBD?
Electronic Brake force distribution
Varries breaking foce to reduce skidding
Retarder?
Slows vehicle down using electromagnetic forces, reducing work on breaks and redces likleyhood of overheating.
ASR and ASC?
Types of TCS
Acceleration Skid Control
Anti-slip regulator
