Central Nervous System Drug Flashcards
The study of how medications affect the Nervous system
Neuropharmacology
A decreased responsiveness that develops over long-term drug use
Tolerance
State where a withdrawal syndrome will occur after suddenly stopping drug use
Physical Dependence
A persistent neurological condition that impairs the brain’s capacity to regulate sleep-wake cycles
Narcolepsy
A medication used to treat narcolepsy
Modafinil
It is used for post-anesthetic respiratory depression, and for respiratory depression caused by drug use
Doxapram
A neurological condition that results in unintentional or uncontrollable movements, including shaking, stiffness, and issues with balance and coordination
Parkinson’s Disease
The cause of activation of Dopamine receptors
Dopaminergic Drugs
The Drugs that can block the receptors for ACh
Anticholinergic Agents
A brain disorder that causes recurring, unprovoked seizures
Epilepsy
A medication that most commonly prescribed Anticonvulsant Drug
Phenytoin
An involuntary movement in one or more muscles
Muscle Spasm
Used for treatment of malignant Hyperthermia
Dantrolene
Relax skeletal muscles by disrupting the transmission of nerve impulses at the motor end plate
Neuromuscular Blocking Drugs
It decrease the amount of anesthetic required during the surgery
Non Depolarizing Agents
It acts like acetylcholine but not inactivated by ACHe
Succinylcholine
It occurs when clients abruptly withdraw from a substance to which they are physically dependent
Abstinence Syndrome
Bind to a carrier and act at a receptor resulting in increased GABA in the brain
Gabapentin
It is restricted to acute treatment of status epilepticus
Diazepam
A DOC for a cute management of status epilepticus
IV Lorazepam
