Antibiotic Drugs
Equal to the sum of the effects of two antibiotics.
Additive effect
2 drugs are used together for the desired effect to be greatly reduced.
Antagonist effect
Primarily effective against one type of organism.
Narrow Spectrum
Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative organism.
Broad Spectrum
It occurs when antibiotics reduce or completely eliminate normal bacterial flora
Superinfection
The signs and symptoms do not improve
Subtherapeutic
Aspiration of body fluid is examined under the microscope
Gram stain
Provide resistance by destroying the beta-lactam ring in the drugs
Beta-lactamase
Contraindicated for clients who have severe history of allergies
Penicillin’s
It performed on the skin which detects presence of allergen-specific lgE on a patients mast cells
Skin testing
It is used in clients with kidney impairment, premature and full term neonates.
Aminoglycosides
Very potent bactericidal broad-spectrum antibiotics
Quinolones
It inhibit bacterial growth by preventing synthesis of folic acid
Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole
Resistance to one first-line and anti-TB drug only
Monoresistant TB
