Cellular structures Flashcards
The selectively permeable outer barrier of the cell. Controls what enters and exits cell.
Plasma membrane – cell membrane
Houses genetic information (DNA) control, cellular structure, and functions.
Nucleus
Produces ribosomes
Nucleolus
Site of protein synthesis
Ribosomes
Fluid portion of the cytoplasm that surrounds the organelles.
Cytosol
Networks of flatten sacks, that synthesize glyco proteins and phospholipids.
Rough endoplasmic reticulum
Network of tubules that synthesize lipids (fatty acids and steroids)
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Modifies, sorts packages, and transports proteins received from rough endoplasmic reticulum (rough ER) (post office).
Golgi apparatus- golgi body -golgi complex
Powerhouse of the cell. Generates energy or ATP (Adenosine triphosphate)
Mitochondrion
Contain digestive enzymes that breakdown a variety of molecules.
Lysosome
Organizing center for growth of mitotic spindles (needed for cell division) and microtubules. Traffic controllers, making sure everything moves in the right direction during cell division
Centrioles
Network of protein filaments that extends through the cytosol.
Cytoskeleton
