Cells Target Sheet Flashcards
State the parts of the microscope
Eyepiece lens, Objective lens, Coarse focusing wheel, fine focusing wheel, stage, handle, clips, light source, slide.
Know how to calculate the the total magnification of the microscope
Eyepiece lens x objective lens
Learn how to safely carry and set up a microscope
To carry a microscope you need to hold it by the handle and place the other hand at the bottom of the microscope.
To set up a microscope first you need to plug the microscope, then you need to get a slide and place it on the stage and then place the clips on top of the slide carefully, finally you can look at your slide with the eyepiece lens but it won’t be a clear image so you will need to adjust the coarse focusing and fine focusing wheel to have a clear image
Learn how to focus the microscope to give a clear image
Adjusting the coarse focusing wheel
Describe the structures of plant and animal cells.
A plant cells have a regular and rectangled shape and the animal cells usually have an irregular shape
Learn how to prepare slides of plant and animal cells.
- Cut an onion
- Use tweezers to peel a thin layer from the inside
- Spread out the layer on a microscope slide
- Add a drop of iodine solution to the layer
- Carefully place a cover slip over the layer
Identify the different parts of a plant and animal cell under a microscope
- cell membrane - cytoplasms - nucleus - mitochondria ,animal and plant cells both have
But the -cell wall and -vacuole only it has it the plant cell
Describe the seven life processes using MRS GREN
Movement Respiration Sensitivity Growth Reproduction Excretion Nutrition
Give examples of animal tissue.
Muscle tissue, Nervous tissue, Epithelial tissue
Know that organs are made up from groups of different tissues.
A group of different tissues work together to make an organ.
Know what an organ is and what organs are made of
An organ is made of different tissues that work together to do a particular job
Know the names and positions of the major human organs
-Heart -Lungs -Stomach -Brain
Know what the major human organs do
Heart: pumps blood around your body
Lungs: carry out the exchange of gases as we breathe
Stomach: break down food into nutrients to absolve them
Brain: to receive sensory impulses as we breathe
Know what an organ system is
An organ system is a group of organs that work together to do a particular job
Know the names of organs in the digestive, breathing, circulatory and nervous systems
Digestive system: Stomach, small and large intestines, liver
Respiratory system: Lungs, trachea, bronchi, windpipe, nose
Circulatory system: Heart, blood, arteries, blood vessels
Nervous system: Brain spinal cord, meninges, senes organs
