Q

What are chemical bonds?

A

Attractive forces that act as glue and hold/link atoms together in molecules or compounds. These bonds are formed when atoms share electrons or transfer them. If the chemical bonds were to be broken, chemical energy would be released

Q

What are the 3 main types of chemical bonds?

A
  1. Ionic bonds - form when a atom transfers electrons to another atom. creates ions with opposite charges
  2. Covalent bonds - when atoms share electrons to get a stable electron configuration
  3. Hydrogen bonds - forms between a hydrogen atom bonded to a electronegative atom and another nearby electronegative atom
