Cells & Body Systems Unit Test Flashcards
Parts Of the Nervous System
Central Nerves = Brain and Spinal cord
Peripheral Nerves = Spinal cord and Nerves outside of the brain.
What is the Nervous System responsible for
All Body Functions
Journey Of the Digestive System
- Mouth uses teeth and saliva to break food into small chunks.
-Esophagus carries food to the stomach
-Stomach mixes the food with gastric/stomach acid.
-Small intestine absorbs nutrients
-Large intestine dissolves the food into feces/stool/poop.
-Rectum stores the stool for a temporary amount of time
-Anus releases the stool from the body.
What is the Digestive System?
When your body absorbs nutrients from food, creating waste.
What is the Circulatory system and what does it do?
Blood vessels carry blood towards and away from the heart, delivering blood to tissues and organs.
Journey Of the Circulatory System
- Heart pumps blood to the body
-Arteries carry blood out of the heart to organs and tissues.
-Veins carry blood from the tissues and organs back to the heart
What does the Respiratory system do?
Inhaling fills the lungs with oxygen, and exhaling releases carbon dioxide.
8 Parts of the Respiratory System
-Sinus
-Pharynx
-Larynx - voice box
-Trachea - windpipe
-Bronchi
-Lung
-Diaphram - Separates the chest from the abdominals.
What is the Cell Organization Of the Body:
Cell –> Tissue –> Organ –> Body System
Cells create tissues, tissues create organs, many organs create organ systems.
Sensory And Motor Neurons:
Sensory neurons sense feelings, such as cold wind, while the motor neurons perform reactions/actions based on the sensory neurons. Ex. If the sensory neurons detect it is cold, the motor neurons will cause the body to shiver in response.
4 Main Nutrients in Food
Carbs: Main source of energy
Fats: Cushions vital organs, essential to a diet.
Proteins: Essential for repair of muscle tissue.
Minerals & Vitamins: Supports the immune system.
Journey Of Respiration
- Air goes down the mouth and nose, down the throat, and through the trachea and bronchi to the lungs.
