How does a torch work?
A torch uses energy stored in a battery. It is controlled by a switch. When the torch switches on the chemical energy in the battery is changed into electricity. This goes to the light bulb & the bulb changes the electricity into light energy.
Definition of a battery.
A battery is made up of 2 or more cells. An electrochemical cell changes the the energy in the chemicals to electricity.
When all the energy in a battery has been transferred (used up) the appliance will stop working. What do we say the battery is then ?
Flat or dead
Why should we recycle old batteries?
Harmful chemicals leak out of them & they can pollute the soil & water & affect peoples health.
What is an electrical circuit?
The parts of a torch that carry electricity are joined together in a loop that begins and ends at the battery.
