Cells And The Microscope Flashcards
what is the eyepiece lens
this is the part of the microscope which allows you to view the object. Usually x10
what is the objective lens?
they allow you to view an object on a higher magnification. eg. x4 x10 x40
what is the stage?
this is where you place the slide to view it
what is the iris diaphragm
controls the amount of light going through the slide.
what is coarse focus and fine focus?
these allow the object to been seen clearly.
what is the coverslip?
it is a thin sheet of glassusedto hold objects for examination under amicroscope. It serves two purposes: it protects themicroscopes objective lens from contacting the specimen, and it creates an even thickness (in wet mounts) for viewing.
what is the cell membrane?
it holds the contents of the cell in place and allows substances to move in and out of the cell.
what is the nucleus?
It’s the cells brain. It’s the control center of the cell.
what is cytoplasm?
this is a jelly inside the cell which fills the cell.
what is the cell wall?
provides support for a plant cell
what is the vacuole?
stores food
what are chloroplasts?
they carry out photo photosynthesis and contain a chemical called cholophyl
