Cells Flashcards
What is cytoplasm?
It’s a jelly-like material that contains dissolved nutrients and salts and structures which are called organelles. It’s also where many chemical reactions take place.
What is the Nucleus?
Contains the DNA and other genetic material that controls the cell.
What is the cell membrane?
Controls substances that are in and out of the cell.
What are the mitochondria?
Organelles that contain the enzymes for respiration.
What are ribosomes?
Tiny structures where protein synthesis occurs.
What are chloroplasts?
An organelle contains a green pigment called chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis.
What is the cell wall?
A cell wall provides protection and structure for plant and bacterial cells. They are made of cellulose.
What is permanant vacuole?
It’s filled with cell sap to help keep the cell swollen.
