cells Flashcards
what are the 2 types of cells ?
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic
What is a eukaryotic cell ?
A more complex cell that has a nucleus, and include animal and plant cells
What is a prokaryotic cell ?
they are smaller, and simpler cells without a nucleus. These include bacteria
Name the features of an animal cell
Nucleus, mitochondria, cytoplasm, ribosomes, cell membrane
Name the features of a plant cell
cell wall, vacuole, chloroplasts, nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria
what is the nucleus ?
contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell ( the brain of the cell )
what is the cytoplasm ?
A gel-like substance where most pf the chemical reactions happen, it contains enzymes which control the reactions
what is the cell membrane ?
The border of the cell which holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell
What are mitochondria ?
Where aerobic respiration takes place, this transfers energy the the cells
Whats are ribosomes ?
where proteins are made in the cell using protein synthesis
What is the cell wall ?
The rigid layer around the cell wall which protects the cell and keeps its structure ( only found in plant cells )
What is the vacuole ?
A sac of liquid in animal cells that contains sap ( week solution of salts and sugars )
What are chloroplasts ?
Where photosynthesis takes place, they contain a green pigment called chlorophyll which absorbs light needed for photosynthesis
Are animal and plant cells prokaryotic or eukaryotic ?
Eukaryotic
Are bacteria cells prokaryotic or eukaryotic ?
Prokaryotic
