Cells Flashcards
What is a eukaryotic cell
Eukaryotes are complex. E.g: animal and plant cells
What is a prokaryotic cell
Prokaryotes are smaller and simpler. E.g: bacteria
Name the 5 subcellular structures of animal cells
Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell membrane Mitochondria Ribosomes
What 3 extra subcellular structures do plant cells have
Cell wall
Vacuole
Chloroplasts
Name the subcellular structures of a bacteria cell
Cytoplasm Cell membrane Cell wall Have a strand of DNA Plasmids (small rings of DNA)
What does a nucleus do
contains genetic material and controls activities of the cell
What does cytoplasm do
Where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control chemical reactions
What does a cell membrane do
holds cell together and controls what goes in and out
What does mitochondria do
where reactions for aerobic respiration takes place
What do ribosomes do
Where proteins are made
What does a cell wall do
made of cellulose to keep the plant rigid
What does a vacuole do
contains cell sap (weak solution of sugar and salts)
What does chloroplast do
where photosynthesis occurs and contains chlorophyll that absorbs the light for photosynthesis
