Cells Flashcards
Common Components of animal cells:
Cytoplasm
Nucleus
Cell Membrane
Mitochondria
What does the cytoplasm do?
Where chemical reactions happen.
What does the nucleus do?
Carries genetic information.
What does the cell membrane do?
Controls what goes in/out of the cell.
Common Components of plant cells:
Cytoplasm Nucleus Cell Membrane Cell Wall Chloroplast Vacuole Mitochondria
What does the vacuole do?
Contains cell sap, keeps cell firm.
What does the chloroplast do?
Where photosynthesis happens – chloroplasts contain a green substance called chlorophyll.
What does the cell wall do?
Made of a tough substance called cellulose, which supports the cell.
Shape of animal cell?
Fried egg, nucleus in middle.
Shape of plant cell?
Rectangular.
What is both, what is plant?
Both: Cytoplasm, Mitochondria, Nucleus, Cell membrane.
Plant: Chloroplasts, Cell wall, Vacuole.
What does the mitochondria do?
Where aerobic resp. takes place, where most of the cells ATP comes from.
Examples of fungi:
Yeast
Mushrooms
Common disease that fungi causes:
Athlete’s foot.
What are fungi cell walls made out of?
Chitin, unlike plant cell walls which are cellulose..
