Breathing System Flashcards
1
Q
Journey of air:
A
Mouth/Nose Trachea Bronchi Bronchioles Alveoli
2
Q
How are alveoli adapted?
A
Thin
Moist
LARGE SA
Constant blood flow to conc. grad. is maintained.
3
Q
MODEL ANSWER MECHANICS OF BREATHING INHALATION:
A
Intercostals= Contract Ribs= Up/Out Diaphragm= Contracts and Flattens T/F Larger volume in thorax Decreases pressure, air rushes in.
4
Q
MODEL ANSWER MECHANICS OF BREATHING EXHALATION:
A
Intercostals= Relax Ribs= Down/In Diaphragm= Relaxes and Expands T/F Smaller volume in thorax Increases pressure, air rushes out.
5
Q
Effects of smoking on lungs:
A
Heat kills cilia T/F no waft T/F smokers cough which can lead to infection, bronchitis.
Lung cancer from tar.
Emphysema from alveoli bursting and less SA.
CO binds irreversibly to haemoglobin T/F less room for O2.
6
Q
Eq for aerobic resp.
A
02 + Glucose ==> C02 + H20 + E
7
Q
Eq for anaerobic resp.
A
Glucose ==> Lactic Acid + E
8
Q
Oxygen Debt:
A
After exercise more air is allowed into the body to reduce fatigue.
