Cells Flashcards
What extra parts are only found in plant cells?
- cell wall
- permanent vacuole
- chloroplasts
What is the function of the nucleus?
Contains the genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
What is the function of cytoplasm?
Gel like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Where most of the reactions for respiration take place which releases the energy for the cell to function
What is the function of the ribosomes?
Where proteins are made in the cell
What is the function of the cell wall?
Supports and strengthens the cell
What is the function of the permanent vacuole?
Contains sap (a weak solution of sugar and salts)
What is the function of the chloroplasts?
Where photosynthesis occurs which makes food for the plant. Contains a green substance called chlorophyll
What type of organisms are single cell organisms
Microorganisms
How many cells are in a yeast organism?
One
What parts does a yeast cell consist of?
- nucleus
- cytoplasm
- cell membrane
- cell wall
What parts make up a bacteria cell?
- genetic material
- cytoplasm
- cell membrane
- cell wall
Where is the genetic material located within a bacteria cell?
Floating in the cytoplasm because a bacteria cell has no nucleus
What parts are in both human and animal cells?
- nucleus
- cytoplasm
- cell membrane
- mitochondria
- ribosomes
