Cells Flashcards
How many cells do you have in your body?
trillions of cells
Cells are what kind of functional part of a living organism?
tiniest
Cells have what that carries out their jobs?
organelles
What is the cell membrane?
a barrier around the cell, containing all of the cell’s contents. It also lets some things go in and out through the processes of active and passive transport.
What is diffusion?
a form of passive transport when particles of high concentration move to areas of low concentration
What is the nucleus?
the command center of a cell.It also stores DNA.
What is the mitochondria?
the powerhouse of a cell. It makes most of the energy for the cell.
What is cellular respiration?
the process of making cellular energy
What is vesicles?
parts of the cell that transport substances throughout the cells.
What are ribosomes?
parts of the cell that are located along the rough endoplasmic reticulum. They are also involved in protein synthesis.
What is protein synthesis?
the process of making protein
What are lysosomes?
the parts of the cell that break down material that are no longer in use. The material can then be recycled in to other things.
What are vacuoles?
the part of the cell that store the substances in the cell and are bigger than vesicles.
What is the Golgi apparatus?
the cell’s UPS. It is involved in shipping and receiving substances.
What are microtubules?
The part of the cell that provide structural support and make up part of the cytoskeleton, as well as being part of cilia and flagella
