Cells Flashcards
1
Q
What are the roles of Plasma?
A
- seperates the interior of the cell from the outside enviroment.( intracelluar/extracelluar)
- regulates the transport of materils entering and exiting the cell
2
Q
What are the chararistics of plasma in a cell?
A
- it is semi permable and allows some substanses to pass through it and not others
- it is thin, flexible and a living memebrane which consists of a lipid bilayer that embeds many protiens
3
Q
What is cytoplasms funtion?
A
- this is a cushion for a cells genetic material
- provides shape to the cell
- encloses and protects the components of a cell
4
Q
What are examples of Membranous organelles?
A
- mitrocondria
- lysomes
- endoplasmic rectilum
- golgi apperatus
5
Q
What are NON Memranous organelles?
A
- Cytoskeleton
- centrisoles
- ribsomes
6
Q
What are the mitrocondria in a cell?
A
- these provide most of the cells energy source which is called, ADENOSINE TRIPHOPHATE( ADP) via aerobic respirations.
- provide celluar activity
- powerhouse of the cell
7
Q
What are the funtions of ribsomes?
A
- these are granules containing protiens which float around the cell in the cytoplasm
- they assist in the production of enzymes and other proteins needed for celluar growth and repair
- ribsomes provide the building materials needed for repair
8
Q
What are the golgi apparatus?
A
- modifies protiens and lipids
- process materials to be removed from the cell
- make and secrete mucus
- packages prodcuts into vesiles for transport
9
Q
What are the lysomes funtion?
A
- these contain large and abundant phagocystes waste, produced by the cell
- they contain digestive enzymes and break down exess or worn out parts
- may be used to destroy invading viruses and bacteria
10
Q
What is the main funtion of Centricoles?
A
- play a role in organizing microtubules that serve as the cells skeletal system.
- they help determine the locations of the nuculues and other organelles
11
Q
What are the chararisics of centricoles?
A
- these are paired , barrel shape organelles
- located in the centresome near the nuculues
-9 fold symetry and a well defined length
12
Q
What are the cillia ?
A
- cillia are celluar extentions exposed on the surface of certain cells
- there purpose is to move substance across the surafce of certain cells in one coordinated direction
13
Q
What is the main funtion of the Nuculues?
A
- the nucules contain chromatin( DNA material)
- Dicates the kinds and amounts of protiens to be sythzised
- control cell division and growth
