Cells Flashcards
What does unicellular mean?
Only one cell
What does multicellular mean?
More than one cell
What is an example of a unicellular organism?
Bacteria is an unicellular organism as it is made up of 1 cell
What is an example of a multicellular organism?
Humans
What is a prokaryote?
Something which DOES NOT contain a nucleus
What is a eukaryote?
Something which DOES contain a nucleus
How big are eukayotic cells?
5 micrometres to 100 micrometres
How big are prokaryotic cells?
0.2 to 2 micrometres
What is an example of a prokaryotic cell?
Bacteria
What is an example of a eukaryotic cell?
Mesophyll cell and liver cell
Give 2 similarities between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
They both contain ribosomes and cytoplasm
Give 3 differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
-One has a mitochondria, chloroplast and nucleus whereas the other doesn’t
-One is oval shaped (prokaryotic) the others are square or rectangle shaped
What is a genome?
The complete set of genetic material present in an organism
