Cell Types Flashcards
The toughest body cell as they are bound together by calcium and phosphate. They give strength, support and framework to the body by enclosing organs.
Bone Cells (osteocytes)
Maintains bone tissue
Osteocytes
Forms bone matrix
Osteoblasts
Bone stem cells
Osteogenic cell
Resorbs bone
Osteoclast
A specialized supporting connective tissue composed of cells and extracellular matrix
Cartilage
Cells but the surrounding material is just loose and flexible compared to those of bone cells. Hence, they are freely bendable.
Cartilage cells (chondrocytes)
Are very simple cells which form covering of other cells.
Epithelial cells
Thin and flat epithelial cells
Squamous
Tall and narrow epithelial cels
Columnar
Cube shape epithelial cells
Cuboidal
Large and have ability to contract and relax providing movements.
Muscle Cells
Cells are attached to long bones and assist in their movement (by muscle contraction)
Skeletal Muscle
Cells are present only in the heart muscle and are responsible for heart beats
Cardiac Muscle
Cells are flexible yet, can contract and relax and are present in stomach, intestine, blood vessels walls (vascular tissue)
Smooth Muscle
