Cell strutcure Flashcards
Nucleus
Function
Largest organelle,stores DNA.
Controls cell
Makes ribonucleci acid+ribosomes.
Mitochondria
Function
Oval shaped with double membrane
Inner membrane deeply folded so more ATP can take place
Matrix- center- makes ATP
function: Site of aerobic repetition
Ribosomes:
Function
RNA+protiens. Found floating free or attached to endplamsic reticulum.
Function: Bind messengers RNA+ synthesis proteins.
Endoplasmic reticulum
Rough: Provides a large SA for synthesis of proteins. Provides a pathway for the transport of materials thru cells.
Smooth: Synthesis, stores and transports lipids and carbs
Contains lytic enzymes (liver)
Golgi body
Sack of membrane flattened sacs
Function: Packages proteins from RER and a layer of membrane surrounds them.
Where are structures from the golgi body sent?
Cystol
cell membrane
Secretion
Lysosomes
cytoplasm:
80% water
All organelles r contained with the cytoplasm
Cell membrane/Plasma membrane
Phospholipid bi-layer
Functions: Selective permeable barrier
keeps cell contents together
Allows communication with other cells
Allows recognition of other external substances
Allows mobility in some organisms
Site of various chemical reactions
