Cell Structure Flashcards
What do plant cells have extra compared to animal cells
A cell wall with plasmodesmata
A vacuole
Chloroplasts
Name the two types of cells an organism can be.
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic
What is the function of the Plasma membrane
Regulates the movement of substances into and out of the cell.
Also has receptors molecules on it, which allow it to respond to chemicals like hormones
What is the function a cell wall
To support plant cells
What is the function of the Nucleus
Chromatin is made from proteins and DNA. The pores allow substances to move between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. (DNA controls cells activities)
What is the function of Lysosomes
Contains digestive enzymes. These are kept separate from the cytoplasm by the surrounding membrane, and can be used to used to digest invading cells or break down worn out components of the cell
What is the function of ribosomes
The site where proteins are made
What is the function of the RER
Folds and processes proteins that have been made at the ribosomes
What is the function of the SER
Synthesises and processes lipids
What is the function of a vesicles
Transports substances in an out of the cell and between organelles. Some are formed by the ER or the Golgi apparatus.
What is the function of the Golgi apparatus
It processes an packages new lipids and proteins. It also makes lysosomes.
What is the function of Mitochondrion
Site of aerobic respiration, where ATP is produced.
What if the function of the chloroplast
Site where photosynthesis takes place.
What is the function of centriole
Involved with separation of chromosomes during cell division
What is the function of cilia
The microtubles allow the cilia to move. This movement is used by the cell to move substances along the cell surface.
