Cell structure Flashcards
Chloroplasts function
Contains chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
Mitochondria function
Releases energy by respiration
Ribosomes function
Protein synthesis (cells make protein)
Nucleus function
Contains genetic material, which controls the activities of the cell
Cell wall function
Strengthens the cell, contains cellulose
(Permanent) Vacuole function
Filled with cell sap to keep the cell turgid (swollen from water)
Cell membrane function
Controls the movement of the substances in and out of the cell
Cytoplasm function
Chemical processes take place controlled by enzymes
Cell structures found in animal cells (5)
Mitochondria, ribosomes, nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm
Cell structures found in plant cells (8)
All of them; chloroplasts, mitochondria, ribosomes, nucleus, cell wall, vacuole, cell membrane, cytoplasm
