cell signalling Flashcards
What are the 4 types of cell signalling?
Direct, paracrine, autocrine, endocrine
What is the main difference with the types of signalling ?
the distance the signal travels to reach the target cell
What are the effects of cell signalling?
- cell division and survival
- programmed cell death
- cell differentiation
What type of molecule can pass through a gap junction?
Amino acids
What is the function of connexins?
helps to increase cell cell communication
How many connexins will form a hemichannel?
6
What is a gap junction?
Intercellular channels that allow neighbouring cells to communicate, and process molecules through cells
What is paracrine signalling?
Signals that act locally between close cells, and elicit short term responses
What are the cell surface receptor subdivisions?
- ligand gated ion channels
- G protein coupled receptors
- enzyme coupled receptors
What is endocrine signalling?
signals to distant cells, releasing hormones and have a longer lasting effect but slower response
What is autocrine signalling?
signalling cell send a signal to itself, can cause positive or negative feedback
What is direct signalling?
Involves communication between cells that are in direct contact with each other
What cells are cancer line cells?
Heal cells
