Cell Replication Flashcards
What are the stages of cell growth?
G1 S phase G2 Mitosis Cytokinesis
What happens in G1?
Cell spends most of its life here
Organelles created like ribosomes to produce more proteins
What happens in S phase?
DNA replication
23 chromosomes each turn into pairs in order to have a total of 46 chromosomes
What happens in G2?
Preparation for mitosis, microtubules are made
What are the 4 stages of mitosis?
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
What happens in prophase?
Chromosomes become thicker and shorter
Nuclear envelope breaks down
Spindles form
Microtubules grow out of centrioles
What happens in metaphase?
Chromosomes line up in middle
Chromosomes attach to each sister chromatid
What happens in anaphase?
Sister chromatids separate and centromere divides
What happens in telophase?
Chromosomes are at opposite end of the cell and a new nuclear envelope forms around each
What is the separation of cells and the creation of two genetically identical cells called?
Cytokinesis
