CELL MEMBRANE Flashcards
It is the gate keeper of the cell.
Cell Membrane
What does “selectively permeable” mean?
Allowing certain substance to pass through while blocking others.
It is the stable internal balance within the cell also known as DYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM
Homeostasis
Process that does not require energy to move molecules from HIGH to LOW concentration.
Passive Transport
Movement of SMALL particles across selectively permeable membrane until equilibrium is reached. H to L concent.
Diffusion
It is a diffusion of water. From H to L concent.
Osmosis
Solution with higher water but less solute.
Hypotonic Solution
What will happen if a cell is placed under hypotonic solution?
The cell will swell or possibly explode because the water diffuses into the cell.
Solution with less water more solute.
Hpertonic Solution
Movement of molecules from low to high concentration that requires energy.
Active Transport
What will happen if a cell is placed under hypertonic solution?
Cell will become SHIVEL-wrinkled or deformed because water diffuses out.
It moves the food INTO the cell.
Endocytosis
What do you call to the role of cell membrane that acts as a barrier separating what is in and outside the cell?
Morphological
It moves the waste OUT of the cell
Exocytosis
