Cell energy Flashcards
A substance that enters into and is altered in the course of a chemical reaction
Reactant
What exist before the reaction happens
Reactant
End substances after a biological process has occurred
Product
Membrane-bound cell organelles that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power
Mitochondria
The process in which glucose is broken down to produce energy
Glycolysis
Ex: Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids
Organic Compound
The process of converting glucose into a form of energy (ATP) that is useable by cells
Cellular Respiration
The source of energy for use and storage at the cellular level
ATP
Synthesis action of energy from one cell to another
ADP
Does not use oxygen to produce energy
Anaerobic Respiration
Uses oxygen to produce energy
Aerobic Respiration
A type of cellular Respiration which does not require oxygen and involves the breaking down of glucose to pyruvic acid and then finally ethanol
Alcohol Fermentation
A natural process by which trees and plants use energy from the sun and carbon dioxide from the air to make the food they need to live and grow
Photosynthesis
The process by which our muscle cells deal with pyruvate during anaerobic respiration.
Lactic Acid Fermentation
Energy from sunlight is absorbed by chlorophyll and that energy is converted into stored chemical energy.
Light Dependent Reactions
